Platinum record swiped from home of Skynyrd frontman

A platinum Lynryd Skynyrd record that frontman Ronnie Van Zant inscribed to his daughter has been stolen, according to Clay County authorities.

Van Zant, the lead singer of the Southern rock band, is from Northeast Florida. He died in a plane crash in 1977, but many of his family members still live in the region.

Police believe the certificate - given to musicians to signify sales of 1 million records - was stolen from the home of Van Zant's daughter, Tammy -----, who lives in Middleburg. Tammy's daughter reported the record stolen from its spot on the wall Monday, according to reports.

Skynyrd's best-selling songs include Sweet Home Alabama and Free Bird.

Police are searching pawn shops and Internet auctions for the platinum-colored vinyl record with a silver plate.

The family estimated its worth at $80,000, although detectives believe the true value to be closer to $1,000.

Yeah, that does suck! We should all try to remember to check ebay from time to time. Stolen things like that often show up there and people have actually gotten their stuff back.

If they haven't already. Fact is he or she can't put it on ebay, someone like us in DSJ or any of the other boards would spot it. They can't tell nobody they got it cause there are way to many Ronnie Van Zant, Skynyrd and Van Zant family lovers out there. Can't show it to anyone either so what is the IDIOT gonna do with it. if they are caught with it they might even git a a$$ whoopin to boot. Lets face it thief, there is a POSSE out there waiting for you to make the wrong move. The best thing to do is RETURN IT PLEASE

That really is terrible!

Incidentally, I have MANY Skynyrd records and photos hanging on my walls. A couple of the photos are irreplacable, and I'm always cautious about who I let in to my home for that very reason. I guess I should get copies of the photos, coz I'd just DIE if they were stolen!

Of course, they're no where near as valuable or sentimental as the record that was stolen from Tammy, but they mean the world to me, and I can just imagine how hurtful that must be to her! Bless her heart!

Hopefully the DIRTY DAWG SCUM that stole it will be caught and PROSECUTED TO THE FULLEST EXTENT OF THE LAW!!

There's always hope though...I was just reading the other day how one of Ed Kings' favorite guitars was stolen a while back, and it eventually showed up on eBay, and he was able to get it back.

I'll definitely keep my peepers open for that record, and I'll say a prayer that it's returned to its' RIGHTFUL owner!
