Don Barnes
Guitarist/Vocals for .38 Special
Don Barnes, born on 12-03, yr unknown. How else to say this but he is one of the original, “WILD EYED SOUTHERN BOYS”. Co-founder of the band along with Donnie Van Zant. He has been there from the beginning. He writes, sing, plays guitar and is one hell of a performer. He is one of the main reasons for the bands success. His guitar abilities are endless. He plays and sings while at the same time can involve the audience to join in. From the start of a song to end, he has everyone cheering. He moves from side to side on the stage so that all of the audience can see him and so he can see them. However, in 1987 Don Barnes left the band and was replaced with Danny Chauncey. The reason for his departure is unknown to me but I figure he just may have needed some time with his family. But to everyone’s surprise and amazement, Don returned in 1991 and at the same time the group added Bobby Capps, (keyboards). And .38 Special was glad to have him back. Don Barnes was missed in his absence but the band played on. But to me his return was just what they needed. Don I am glad you returned. Your showman ship on stage is just what it is, professional and mind blowing. No one can belt out songs like Don. He puts his heart and soul into each and every song. When he sings he captures the audience with his guitar abilities and his smile that makes you just wanna sing along with him. I have met him and he is a pleasant man that makes you feel as though you are family and very happy that you attend his shows.
