JoJo Billingsley, best known as one of Ronnie Van Zant's three "Honkettes" during Lynyrd Skynyrd's peak popularity, is delivering a new kind of message these days. A message of faith.
Billingsley, now a certified Reverend in the Church, has recorded an absolutely incredible debut album, filled with excellent gospel songs, all written by her.
"I've Gotta Right" kicks the record off in high gear, and even features a little tip of the hat to her old band, Lynyrd Skynyrd. Make no mistake, this gospel rocks.
The songs range from slow, easy praise tunes, to upbeat, catchy numbers. Outstanding tracks include "Black and White," "Be My Spirit," and "You're The Reward." Truth be told, all ten songs are each special in their own way.
JoJo is backed by a team of fine musicians, including Marty Shrabel, Robb Tripp, Kelly Back, Joel Key, Buddy Hyatt ad former Skynyrd drummer Owen Hale.
We have been waiting for this one for quite some time, and it is above and beyond anything we could have dreamed of. JoJo was a dynamic backup vocalist, but she is truly in her element here, front and center, standing squarely in the light. An inspirational record of vast beauty and faith.
