Old Rocker All those dreams that he finally caught Have faded now with age He’d missed a chord or two she thought His last night up there on the stage
She could see by the look on his face He’d known it in his mind He gently laid that Gibson in its case For what might be the very last time
His mind went back to a sellout crowd Mississippi, back in sixty-eight He’d never seen a place quite that loud And that night just sealed his fate
Fingers like lightning, torching those strings Long hair blowing in the wind Buried in the comfort southern rock brings Never thinking it all had to end
His old fingers are now swollen and sore But his heart will always be there He can’t caress her worn neck anymore Age has thinned out his long gray hair
She’d loved him from the very first day Now they’ve grown old together But his children’s kids love to hear him play He reckons life couldn’t be any better
He sits a lot now in a chair on the porch Reliving the past through his stereo Hearing all of those he’s handed the torch And waiting for the children to show
His mind still goes back to a sellout crowd And he might shed a tear now and then But if you ask him he’ll sure tell you proud damn right he’d do it all over again ©2004 Jody Willman

Thanks Jody......didn't take that long really. Thank God for that copy/paste trick!! Hey, it gave me a chance to read them all again, which is why I wanted to put them here for all of us. You're the one that rocks, my friend......everything you write is great. Thank you for sharing your special gift with us. Think about that book idea Susan mentioned.
