Hot on the Heels of their new CD titled My Kind of Country, Johnny and Donnie decided to do a mini promotional tour visiting various radio stations and some country venues and a Walmart or two to let the public know about the release of their new CD. On one particular night in early October they did a mini concert at Prospectors Steakhouse and Saloon in Mount Laurel New Jersey. Since this was a General Admissision concert the Hootys were there well before the doors opened so we could be first in line. We heard the managers talking early about the sold out crowd and they were worried talking about the Fire Marshalls coming in and making sure the place wasn't overloaded otherwise there would be hefty fines to pay. The atmosphere was GREAT, the place was totally country with WXTU a Country Radio Station broadcasting from there, line dancing going on as WXTU played the music before the Van Zant Band took the stage. The place was like the Wildhorse Saloon down in Nashville except smaller.
Ya'll even been to a Country Concert before, the Hootys have, we seen the likes of Randy Travis, Alan Jackson, Brooks and Dunn to name a few and we seen some very mellow crowds at some of them, not to much hootin and hollering going on sometimes cept for maybe a front row or two . We were standing in front of the stage at 5-30 with our good friends Tee and Tammy and no one else joined us until about 15 minutes till showtime at quarter til eight, STRANGE and surely not like any Skynyrd or 38 Special concerts we been to before, but than again this was Country, a little bit more laid back. SHOWTIME it was to be an accoustic performance with Matt and Mark from the Van Zant Band on guitar and of course the main ingrediants Donnie and Johnnie. When they hit the stage the crowd went from laid back and mellow to an ALL HELL BROKE LOOSE BUNCH. The first song Van Zant pelted out was off their new CD called Goes Down Easy and they had the crowd singing along on the chorus. I am surprised the cops didn't close the place down for noise violations. Next up was off Get Right With the Man, Nobody Gonna Tell Me What to do. Johnnie and Donnie didn't even ask and the crowd just sang along naturally Train was their third song in the set and the brothers Van zant asked the crowd to do the train whistle part for the chorus Woo Ooh Ooh Ooh Ooh Woo Woo. The crowd had a BLAST with that number. Next came a Patriotic number likened to Skynyrd's Red White and Blue called these Colors Don't Run and you could tell the entire crowd was DEEPLY moved by that number. Somebody say 38 next came Wild eyed Southern Boys played perfectly by Matt and Mark accoustic style and about this time I thought the building was going to shake and crumble off its Foundation. Another tune off their first CD, a real crowd pleaser and sing along type of song that makes you feel all kinds of warm and fuzzy inside Help Somebody followed by Doin All right followed by more noise complaints to the local PD and the building came crumbling down. Somewhere in the middle of it all while Johnny was talking and addressing the crowd he was saying I see some new faces in the crowd and I see some old friends here also, The Hootys are here he says, GOD I COULDN'T BELIEVE HE SAID THAT. Me and Laurie are walking on cloud nine ever since that day. Thanks JVZ, you and Donnie really know how to make your fans feel appreciated. They also signed our friend Tammy's hat when Mrs Hooty held it out to them. Well time to close the show and I don't think anyone could have picked a better closer, Skynyrds very own Sweet Home Alabama. What a night for singing along with the band, a BEAUTIFUL NIGHT a WONDERFUL CROWD and a GREAT PERFORMANCE. The price was right, ten dollars got you not only in the door but also got you their New CD that was signed by Donnie and Johnnie. Thanks so much for giving back to your fans. Special thanks to Prospectors Steakhouse in Mount Laurel New Jersey for hosting this event and if you are ever in the area stop in they do have GREAT Steaks just ask Mrs Hooty. Special Thanks to a Wonderful Crowd at the event they were terrific no pushing no shoving and no rumbles in the jungle if you know what I mean. But most of all special thanks to Donnie Johnnie Matt and Mark for providing us with a GREAT EVENING of your music. We wish you VERY MUCH SUCCESS with My Kind of Country, may it go GOLD like Get Right With The Man did
