In beautiful downtown Sayreville New Jersey just a half hour from the Hooty Hotel
You know how they say a Good Bottle of Wine gets better with age, well the same can be said about the Marshall Tucker Band. They put on a show that could be heralded as an all time HIGHLITE. Over two hours long and when they were done nobody wanted them to leave. Doug Gray could not handle the lead singin chores due to recent Johnny Van Zant throat surgery. In his place was his nephew Mr. Clay Cook. WHERE HAVE THEY BEEN HIDING MR COOK. He fit right in with the band like a hand fits into a glove. His singing reminded us so much of Doug Gray that its no wonder he is his nephew. His guitar playing told me he is a seasoneed Professional. I heard he is also multi talented playing a sax and keyboars in his bag of tricks. David Muse patrolled the stage with his usual saxaphone and flute visiting everybody in the band and letting them get an earfull of his LUNG POWERwhile playing in between tappin on the keyboards. Stewie Swamland, everytime I see him he just amazes me with his fingering fret action. Chris Hicks is a sight to behold, a guitar virtuoso, a talented singer and an omminous stage presence if I ever saw one. Pat their Bass Player could play bass for anyone and it was GREAT to see him manuevering around a lot more instead of hanging out in the background. Barry Borden was his usual modest but VERY UPBEAT drummer that he is except when it was time for him to do a solo. I think all the drum greats that passed on to Rock and Roll Heaven entered his body and started to play at one time. It was Phenomenal and Unbelievable how much energy he had left towards the end of the show to pull off that solo. It was really SUPERB to see each individual of the band pull off their own solo to showcase their talent to the crowd. Not a one of the band members tried to outdue any of the others but simply thrilled the crowd with their unique and fascinating talents. Which leads us to Doug Gray, since he recently had throat surgery what was he doing??? He still patrolled the stage wooed the crowd and played his Tamborine. He got busted a couple times by his bodyguard for singing and his BG could be seen on the side of the stage motioning to Doug to stop singing. Chants of Doug could be heard all thruout the night as all fans were tickled to see him and wish him well on his HIGHWAY to recovery. Would we go back to see them, you bet your bippee, they did not dissapoint. Top Notch Concert, YES INDEED. One of my Favorite groups to see in concert OH YES but let me be perfectly honest here. I have a lot of favorite groups to see in concert. Would I recommend them to anybody who hasn't seen them, HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. Just watch the crowd reaction and participation when they play Can't You See
