Need help re: a Christmas gift

I've got a question for any of you folks that live in snow country. I found these heated ice scrapers on ebay that I'd like to buy for my sister and her family who live in Ohio. I asked her if they had ever used these or seen them anywhere and she said no. Which is kind of odd in a place where you have to scrape ice off your windows. You'd think everyone would have one.

Has anybody here every used them? Are they any good? If they work they would be a great gift. If they don't then it'll just be a waste of money. Whatcha think?

I've never even seen one of those and it's a given here all winter to scrape windshield's... most of us, when we know a mess is commin, is cover the windshield with something.

With the defroster running even with thick ice it's not that big of deal to scrape. I'd also be concerned if the heat from that thing would crack the glass too with it frozen... I dunno.. I'd have to use it to see if it would be worth it. Tough call lol
