Multi-Grammy award winning (for blues and rock and roll) Ike Turner Died out in California at the age of 76. He was born in Clarksdale Mississippi (ground zero-where the blues was born) in 1931 and I know what your gonna say....Well he was a druggie and beat on Tina... And well he may have had his trials and tribulations with life but ya gotta give this cat some credit. He was inducted into the RRHOF in 91. He wrote Rockett 88 in 1951 which is said to be the first rock and roll record. He was one of the pioneers of rock and roll getting it all started playing (he played guitar and piano btw) with all the blues legends including Muddy Waters, Howlin Wolf, Sonny Boy Williamson,Robert Nighthawk, Elmore James, Pinetop Perkins, Little Walter and many more. We have to appreciate these guys cause this is where the music we love so much called southern rock comes from. I saw him perform at a blues festival a few years ago and he was GREAT. Among his many tunes was one I particularly like, You might remember the Bob Seger version, It goes a little somethin like this here............................
A church house gin house
a school house outhouse
on Highway Number Nineteen
The people keep the city clean.
They call it Nutbush, oh Nutbush.
Call it Nutbush city limits.
Twentyfive was the speed limit
Motorcycle not allowed in it
You go t'the store on Friday
You go to church on Sunday.
They call it Nutbush, oh Nutbush.
Call it Nutbush city limits, Nutbush city limits.
You go t'the fields on week days
And have a picnic on Labor Day
You go to town on Saturday
But go to church ev'ry Sunday.
They call it Nutbush, oh Nutbush.
Call it Nutbush city limits, Nutbush city limits.
No whiskey for sale
You can't cop no bail
Saltpork and molasses
Is all you get in jail.
They call it Nutbush, oh Nutbush.
Nutbush city limits, Nutbush city limits,
is a good old town in Tennessee
A quiet little old community
A one-horse town
You have to watch what you're putting down
In old Nutbush
(Ike & Tina Turner - Nutbush City Limits 1974)
I would like to think this is whats going on now....
