OK, let's see if we can get some new Family members here, and track down and bring back some MIA members like Linda Lou, Jacque, etc. What kinds of incentives can I offer to attract members? Suggestions  |

You should send out presents on people's birthdays. Or maybe, arrange for a birthday call from some VIP, a drawing like SFM.

I've been thinking about this a lot lately because I've noticed that some of our regulars that used to post all the time have left us. Or just stop by once in a while. Somehow we need to make it more fun and interesting around here......which I've been trying to do but it's not working.....ie; more videos in the media section, articles, building up our photo gallery, making our myspace page fun, etc. What if we sent out a funny poll or something asking why they left and/or what we could do to make them come back. And what would make this place fun again.  I dunno, just a thought. Also.....we did get some new members through our myspace. But they kind of came and went. Checked us out but maybe didn't see a whole lot going on so they didn't post much and didn't stay. We got some new members after the Jam-A-Que too, but same thing......they came and went. Incentive.....maybe a contest, not just a drawing because that's already being done on SFM. Maybe like a southern rock trivia contest with a prize. Only problem with that is that you can google answers too easily, so I don't know if that would work. Something like that maybe? Some of the other boards are suffering a bit too. The ones that aren't are the ones that have a "celebrity" posting on a regular basis......Ed King and Gene Odom, for example. I'm just thinking out loud.  And I have been thinking about it a lot latey, like I said, and it bothers me because there are people here that put a lot of work into this place and it just doesn't seem to be appreciated much. So, obviously it's not enough. Another thought......we can remind people to check out the site on a myspace bulletin, too. |

I too have noticed some MIA and the ones that join don't come back. A monthly drawing could work. But we seem to have lost alot of faithful members that were here on a daily basis.
But............I know with working now even I don't get here as much. Which I will be sure to work on starting tomorrow. I have been busy since working the booking agency and the Gator Alley Band. Lets plan a night that some of us can get together that have yahoo. or the chat here and put our heads together. Missy, Teri, Janet, Bruce, Hooty's, Tony, Tamar. I know I am real glad to see Florabama back. So what do you say. Lets even start a regular chat night. We can all get together and BS.

well for me its the mail subscriptions that don't get sent when there is a reply made that sure made it easier to get back here....if that was fixed then alot more of them would get back on.....a chat night is good too good idea.....

Since you brought this up.......There is one thing I think may make a difference here. There is too much stuff on the front page of the forum. I think it's confusing and too much to scroll through. Including too many stickies and announcements that I think can be shortened a bit. Susan, Missy and I have had a few conversations about this and I think we can clean it up some so it won't be so overwhelming to new people.......too much to look at. So, since Susan and I helped design the board with Proudbird we've make some changes that I think everyone will like better. If not, then I guess we can put them back where they were. Hope nobody minds, but since we designed it in the first place I reckon we can make some changes. Hey, changes are good!! For example......all of those sections with the band member names are now sub-boards underneath the main board. Click on .38 Special and you'll find the members of the band. We'll do the same thing with the Van Zant board. We're not deleting anything, just moving some stuff around so it's not so cluttered. Let us know what you think and if you have any other ideas, ok? |

around this time of year some of the concert action is slowing a little bit so there is a little less to chat about since this is a music related site. Personally I think offering contests or prizes would just bring in people for the prizes and not the musical content. Hooty will try to do better with postering. Let me see if I can get thru to Katbyrd my adopted MoM and find out what kind of message reply system she has and maybe pass it along to Miss Teri or Miss Susan and see if its combatable here. I do miss the automated message reply system I have seen on other boards.

OK, since ya'all started the house cleaning, ;D What you think about this: This forum is directed to from several sites... What if,,, we do major categories of sites: Then each site will have sub-categories. For instance - main categories: DownSouthJukin.com 43TheHawk.com SouthernFriedMagazine.com SouthernRockSociety.com Southern Music Alliance etc Then, Sub cats for say DSJJoke of the Day Shootin the Breeze Events etc. Sub Cats for say 43theHawkSong or Artist Suggestions comments Shootin the breeze Events Sub Cats for Southern Rock SocietyMembership Shooting the Breeze 38 special Lynyrd Skynyrd Van Zant etc, etc Cats for Southern FriedArticles Comments and Suggestions Announcements etc.etc. Then of course threads will be posted into each category. But if we do this, each website can send folks to the board generating more traffic, plus the front page would be limited to only a few main categories, keeping it neat. Then the sub categories kept simple (general chatting, etc) Hooty, Tony Great suggestions as well. Nobody be afraid of suggesting things to make "OUR" home better for all of us. This is a family effort.  What ya'all think? |

I already PM-Katbyrd on the aforementioned but it might take a day or two for her to respond. Ifin anyonebody knows of a Message Reply Notification System that we can yse here like the other boards got PLEASE feel free to chime in

Maybe those notification things have to do with the kind of website you're using. Maybe we could check with pro-boards. I really don't know. Thanks for checking it out Eddy! Like I said earlier, I get them when I bookmark a thread I've posted on because I click on the box and I get PM message notifications. But don't get NEW topic ones, though. Does anybody?
I think I like your idea Bruce. A lot less to look at when you pull up the first page. I think it would be a nice change and that's why we did what we did last night, change is good! We've been looking at the same design for 4 years or so. Let's do somethng different. We'll see what everybody else thinks.

..... and if you want to do the box style category page look, the box should be lit up in a color or glow to let people know that there is a new message in that category or sub category ....
it doesn't matter what I do in the subscribe thing it never alerts me to anything .....nicole went to the old board and sent me a message and that one came through....
Here is an idea for it too.(insert light bulb here) lol.... Teri can you get a bigger jpg of one of those old jukeboxes and we can use it as a front page for the categories and people can click on each topic like a song...
is that too hard to do .... not sure how to do it with software or html ? Bruce can you make it work....
Susan that avatar pic of you and Randy is soooooo good...I really love it....
