I am having a LOT of trouble with this stupid machine lately. I hate this d**n thing!! Freezes up all the time, slow, etc. I've done everything I know how to do, but I really need to free up some space. I have a question. I went into Add/Remove Programs and I see several Java script updates in there taking up a lot of space. For example: J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 updates 4, 6, 9, 10 & 11. Do I need all of these or can I delete the older ones and keep the most current one which is number 11? Each are using about 120.00 MB of space. Any help would be appreciated. I'm about ready to do something I'm sure I'll be sorry for later. Thank you!

On that I don't know, but when you just delete from add/remove programs it doesn't always remove it all so go to program files and delete the rest of stuff there as well
I am constantly runnin disk clean, dumpin cookies (even tho the disk cleans supposed to) and anti-spy programs and it seems to help.. oh yeah.. regclean too

Thanks Missy. I found out a few months ago that even though you remove a program not all of it is removed. When I switched to cable I had to download all my new security stuff, but it wasn't working right. I talked to about 10 people who didn't speak English and found out that even though I deleted the McAfee Firewall there was still some left in there and it was conflicting with my new stuff. So I uninstalled the Cox cable security system and reloaded AOL again and it worked. Finally, somebody gave me McAfee's phone number so they could help me find these fragments and delete them. Get this sh*t.....they wanted $2 a MINUTE to talk to a tech!! So, obviously I didn't get any of their help. So I don't know if that's causing problems or what, but I have no idea how to fix that. Actually though, that might effect my firewall to not work properly, but I'm not sure if it has anything to do with what I'm going through now.....but I could be wrong. I run programs all day long to clean crap out of here....delete cookies, temporary internet files, spyware and adware programs, Registry Mechanic, Pit Stop Optimize, etc etc etc. Nothing works, lately. I even reinstalled my AOL software. But I DO know that I'm low on memory, so that's why I was asking about that Java thing. Guess I could get some help from AOL AGAIN or something. Just thought someone here might know. This is most likely what that 2 bucks a minute would have bought me! We've all talked to this guy, right?

LOL you're probably right. Another thing that helps is check your start menu... see what all's runnin at start up.. half that crap you don't need to start up.
Programs like Weatherbug load you down with stuff too and slow ya down. Myspace eat's your memory like pacman lol.. sometime's I have to reboot after myspace. If you reboot, leave it down for at least 3 minute's.
If push comes to shove, have ya another memory card put in and run at 512... sometimes it can be to small a processor slowin ya down too... some of these older computers have a hard time keepin up with all the new stuff out there

Have you tried defragmenting your disk? I know I have to do that alot at work to get more space.

MYSPACE? ? No kiddin! I've been loading tons of stuff on Craig's myspace lately. Since all that stuff is online I never realized it could effect my computer. I don't understand how that would work though. I'm not downloading anything into my computer that takes up space ....it's all online. I don't get that, Missy. Wow.....I had no idea! I also restart this thing about 3 times a day, which helps for a while. Yep, I have also customized the start up menu, did that a long time ago. And I defrag daily.....it's way past the defrag fix, that's for sure. I'm more in the "need to buy another computer" stage or buy more memory. This one's about 3 years old, which seems to be close to the life expectancy around here for computers. I spend more time running tests and scans and crap on this thing than I do having fun. Thanks for your help guys.

Ummm....ok I feel really dumb now Missy. You're talking about myspace using up a lot of space and performing badly when you're working on it a lot, right? I'll quit hanging out there for a few days and see if my computer works better. That what you meant?

No it's all the memory it uses on myspace... not space. Or maybe the processer.. just alot goin on each page like ad's, ppl's url's for pics or banners.. that stuff.... slows me down BAD, but I go there anyway ;D
Some pages have so much on them it pretty much locks me up. Susan's page and Bruce's page lock me up each time they have so much stuff on there to load... any page with a ton of url's to load will

Yeah, memory, not space....that's what I meant to say. Thanks Missy....I got it now. Takes me a while sometimes! Yeah, I do know that some of the real pimped out myspace pages won't even load all the way before it locks up. I can't hang out on those very long, too frustrating.
