I am setting the date for the 4th Annual Jam-A-Que to Saturday May 17th. This way it will not be so hot, not Fathers day, and won't conflict with the Winters Brothers Jam, (so some artists and guests can attend both), etc. I am setting the date now so there is almost a year to prepare and plan. Those who attended this years, and those who watched via internet, please post suggestions on how to improve it here. I already plan on a little better webcam set up. Earlier start to the music, more jamming, and more bands and celebrity artists. Thanks ya'all You can donate to the fund by sending payment via paypal account 1) log in to paypal 2) select send money 3) send to admin@downsouthjukin.com That simple. I am trying to create buttons/links but that function still is not working and I have them working on it. Remember anything helps.

COOL BRUCE.........everthing was great this time....
.......but, heres my suggestion for the music. have the established bands play first, just as we did this time. each band has a time limit that has to be observed........
....., when the open jam starts, have one of the established bands agree to back up anybody that wants to sit in with them and play or sing. several of us players who want to jam together( like bobby, woodjam, craig, me or who ever), can jam with the band all at the same time if desired. every guitar player would need to bring an amp....
.... and also, pick songs from the backing bands song list, THAT IS, providing they have a large number of songs and a good variety of songs to choose from that eveybody can play and enjoy. that way the open jam portion will be better organized and the songs will flow smoothly. also have two sets of drums up there so any drummer can sit in with or without the other drummer present if they want. this way, any of us could sit in on a tune we might not be extremely familiar with and still get to play......
......but this is just an idea though. i have played in and hosted many open jams before and this way always seems to be successful as everybody gets to play and everything runs nice and smooth...........SCOTT

At last weekend's jam I tried to get a list of players and what songs they wanted to do, however from everyone I got "it doesn't matter at all" so that kind of blew the whole very organized thing, but no harm. About the 2 drums sets, I talked to Gary about that when he started setting up and he was up for it but somehow, it didn't happen. I agree 2 sets would make it alot better. Also the time limit thing. I realize in the technical problems we were having that setup time went way over which made gary start late but although they were very good, I think they went way over but only in the sense of others wanting to play. the spot light on the drums after dark was horrible as far as a bug draw, plus the intense light. Better lighting from above or out front. Song selections also should be figured out ahead of time because in CJ's band deciding during their set to do certain songs which our jam bands had lined up ahead of time to avoid double playing. But let me say that Bruce deserves all of the credit for even making it happen. Great job. We have a whole year to prepare for 2008 and I know with this year's event as a go-by all these glitches will be ironed out fine. Also, great job to all of the players for a fine musical event

Even though I wasn't there It really amazed me about all the musicians could jam together when some of them have never met or practiced together before. What was your secret about that

the reason i said we should get one of the establishished bands to host the open jam is for oganization, yes, but also to help carry us jammers through the songs so we can start and end together without getting lost before the song is over. the host band would already be rehearsed and we would follow them..............SCOTT

Well to have the pa set up the day before would be the biggest help..just have to cover it up with tarps and plastic....and start jamming at 10 am just so everyone can get in all the songs they care to play....just put 2 par cans on those wood poles out front that would work and one overhead by the drummer ..... about the song list... man I don't know what to do ....who knows I might not even play next year....I just want to spend time with my friends...never got to sit down to talk to anyone....feel bad bout that not sure if I got a photo with anyone this year...damn

i agree tony.....since the outfit backs up a lot of different folks ya`ll could take a break in between those players while another band plays for a while. that way you could sit down for a while and visit with your friends before you would have to play again. i know what its like to stand in the same spot for two hours plus with a 10lbd piece of wood around your neck..........
.........about the set list, i really don`t see the advantage in it either. it may give some idea of what to play, but a group of musicians that only plays together once a year or so can`t really use a set list because it will be rough sounding no matter songs we choose. thats why, atleast from my experience, a reheasrsed band hosts open jams, to keep things the song rolling along.....................SCOTT

no secret really, just experience. knowing how to blend and recognizing chord structure and playing in the correct key is the biggest thing experience will teach. and a good ear helps too...........SCOTT

I'd be happy to lend any help you need for the next go-around. Everything from helping with the sound system (including soldering any cables), down to 'toilet scrubbin' if need be.

Our buddy Scott Braswell is gonna help with the Jam organization...I will let him tell ya the news Man thanks Scott. At the rate that the gathering is growing each year, I assume that the event will need more people keeping a hand on things. Susan helped tremendously last year by gathering information and keeping the ball rolling with giving and receiving suggestions in various threads among other things. Teri did alot of research into motel pricing and such too. (We still owe Susan a fee: play "Wild Eyed Southern Boys".) Now we gonna owe double with compounding interest... Have mercy Susan! We'll settle up! I have a few suggestions to help with the event based on my observation in conjuction with the growth rate of 2006 to 2007 but I'll wait till Scott makes his post first...he may already be thinking the same things I am most likely. ...gonna dedicate it to George...featuring some surprise guests. George would want me to get back to work.. So here I am,,, so let's roll up our sleeves and make this an event to end all events. Love ya'all, thanks for all the support and prayers. Bruce, given everything taking place there are certain moments that cant be rushed by anyone.... So it's a relief to see you back at the ranch. We've all been worried sick about you and it was good to see you feel that George would want me to get back to work. Looking forward to hear what ya'll have in store for next year esp considering its dedication to George. I'd like to thank everyone who had a part in this and last years event. Evidently everyone that came together as they did played a part of the success and evolution of the Jam~O~Que that is apparently snowballing into a monumental event. And finally... Hats off to you! Bruce Wall!
