Well after seeing the hummingbirds that came to my feeders this week it made me think about whats going on everywhere else around our region. IT'S DRY!!! All the flowers and plants for hummingbirds are delicate and have died at least 3 weeks ago. So I am asking everyone to please put up a hummingbird feeder until Oct. 15 or until they no longer come to feed. How to make sugar water: Boil 4 cups of tap water for 3 minutes to get rid of chlorine and other things. Don't start timer until the water starts a good boil. Water to sugar ratio is 4:1...which is 4 cups of water to 1 cup of sugar...use white sugar only and nothing else do not use food coloring or additives. Wait till nectar cools down and then fill the feeder about a quarter full , theres no need to fill it up to the top because the heat and uv rays will ferment the sugar after about a week . Watch for black spots on the inside of the feeder which would be the bacteria and mold, only clean it out with warm soapy water let dry, refill the feeder the next day. It's good to hang the feeder in the shade if possible. Hummingbirds feed every 10-15 minutes and eat up to 10,000 calories a day or 4 ounces of sugar water, however it comes out . If you have more questions just ask me.. Thanks ya'll Tony more info here....... groups.msn.com/TonyBeazleyPhotography/abouttherubythroatedhummingbirdbytonybeazley5.msnw

Thanks Tony.....I love hummingbirds, they're my favorite birds and we have them here too, but not as many as we usually do this year though, so I'll read the article. One of your hummer pictures is my computer wallpaper.

Thanks Teri!!! It helps to put up a strip of red or yellow cloth near by the feeder so they can zoom in on it!!! They will eat the ants on the feeder...but not all of them so you wil get some ants clogging the feeder up so spray some Pam on the hanger so they can't crossover it...
